The School of Management and Commerce offers a full-time and part-time Ph.D. Program to scholars. The objective of a Ph.D. program is to conduct state-of-the-art high-quality research and enable the scholar to develop research competency individually and collaboratively. The School of Management and Commerce encourages research in interdisciplinary areas, and the course involves course credit requirements, research progress presentations, and satisfactory fulfilment of submission requirements.
Candidate must have cleared Ph.D. Entrance Test of the University.
Candidate should have been confirmed for Ph.D. registration in full-time mode.
Ph.D. Candidates who are employed anywhere or getting any scholarship or financial assistance from any other University or any organisation shall not be eligible.
Candidates who are UGC-NET and/or M.Phil. qualified will be preferred.
5% relaxation in marks/grade is applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS and other categories as per UGC norms
Candidates with M.Phil. degree (with minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade) from recognized institutions (Indian or foreign) are eligible for Ph.D. admission
M.Phil. degree holders qualified before Dec 2023 with minimum 55% marks are exempted from the entrance examination

Non-Resident Indian (NRI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals may be admitted to the program in accordance with the policy guidelines laid down by the Government of India.
Yes, a 90-minute entrance test is conducted, consisting of 70 marks (35 MCQs on Research Methodology and 35 on Subject-Specific knowledge). Candidates with valid UGC-NET, CSIR-NET (JRF), GATE, or M.Phil. (completed before Dec 2023 with 55% marks) are exempted from the test and directly called for an interview.
Candidates who secure at least 50% in the entrance test (or are exempted via UGC-NET/M.Phil.) are called for a personal interview (30 marks). Admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be based on merit in the 100-mark evaluation. The written test (70 Marks, 90 minutes, MCQs) is followed by an interview (30 Marks), during which applicants must present their proposed research area, demonstrate knowledge of research methodology, and exhibit clarity on objectives and methodology.
The minimum duration is 3 years (including coursework) and the maximum is 6 years, extendable to 8 years with re-registration. For women and Persons with Disabilities (>40%), the duration can be extended up to 10 years. Coursework, progress reviews, and a final thesis submission are integral components of the program.
The value of the assistantship is Rs. 24,000/- per month for the first two years and Rs. 30,000/- per month for the third year. Scholars are eligible for a contingency fund of Rs. 15,000/- per annum, disbursed in two half-yearly installments. The fellowship is performance-based and reviewed annually for continuation.
Ph.D. scholars are expected to publish at least two research papers annually in SCI/Scopus/SSCI/ABDC-indexed journals, mentioning MRU affiliation. Additionally, scholars participate in academic activities like tutorials, lab demos, and seminars (up to 6 hours/week) as part of their scholarly engagement.
Yes. MRU promotes interdisciplinary research across its Schools and offers collaborations with foreign universities and reputed research labs. Scholars are encouraged to engage in joint research, attend conferences, and co-author papers under national/international mentorship.
